Our city of Flint, MI traces its origins to a fur trader called Jacob Smith who settled here in 1819. We've grown much larger in the last 203 years, and we're now the seat of Genesee County. Our area is filled with history, and we've collected as much as possible to preserve it for the future. These are three of our best museums. more Flint Institute of Arts This museum was founded in 1928 and moved to its present location thirty years later. The building is very large, with 25,000 sq. ft. of gallery space and a total area of over 160,000 sq. ft. The art collection covers over 5,000 years of history, including Native American art, Japanese paintings, Classical European art, and contemporary American artwork. They also have a very impressive glass collection from around the world. The museum features regular exhibitions on specific genres. There's also a gift shop with excellent souvenirs, and art classes are also available at the museum for budding artists. The Institute is located at 1120 E Kearsley Street and is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, and on Sundays from 1 pm to 5 pm. Flint Children's Museum Young children don't usually enjoy museums, but this one is rather special. Its devoted entirely to children, and the exhibits and dioramas are very educational. The museum's founder was a teacher who was dedicated to her young students. This fine tradition has continued, and the museum and its numbers of visitors have grown over the last 40 years. The museum is entirely interactive, as it's the best way to capture a child's attention. Different sections focus on health, transportation, how things work, and performing arts. The children are guided and watched over by trained educators. Daily educational events are held, and you can also get a membership for your child. The museum can be found at 1602 University Avenue and is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Whaley House Museum Robert J Whaley was the president of Citizens National Bank. While many visitors have never heard of him, he is remembered for providing a loan to William C Durant. William Durant would use the loan to find General Motors. As the house of a bank president, it was designed and built with the latest conveniences and best technology of the 1880s. The house is decorated with original furniture and finishings, allowing you to see the life of a well-to-do family in the 1880s. Other memorabilia include original baseball uniforms for a team sponsored by the bank in the 1870s. The staff are very knowledgeable and have a wide range of interesting anecdotes about the family and the house. This museum is located at 624 E Kearsley Street. Several generations have grown up since the first burger hit the grill here, but the quality, portion size, and great atmosphere are still he same. This food icon of our city is still family-owned. Their hamburger menu isn't large, but they have a burger option for everyone. You can try the Starlite burger, their basic burger that started the store. For something different, we recommend the spicy Baja burger, a delicious quarter pounder with mustard, onions, pickles, pepper jack, jalapenos, and bacon. Service is very fast. You can dine in, but they also have takeout. Parking can be a slight problem, but that's just because it's so popular! Wait a minute or two, and a parking space will open up. Starlite is located at 1500 N Center Rd, Burton, and is open 24/7. Halo Burger Flint's very own hamburger chain. The first store opened here in 1923, and the company now has eight locations and a food truck around central Michigan. Halo has eleven great burger choices, from the quarter pounder to the BLT cheddar burger. Vegetarians have an option we love, the black bean burger. This plant-based burger really hits the spot. If you fancy a meatier option, we recommend the double quarter pounder which will fill you up. The original Halo is located at 800 S Saginaw St. and is open Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm. Freakin' Unbelievable Burgers This burger joint is a place you just have to try. It has slick, modern décor and TVs in all the upper corners to provide background sports. Their burgers are fantastic, and they have an incredible variety of 44 toppings you can choose from. There are eleven basic burgers, five specialty burgers, and the option to build your burger exactly as you want it. Our favorite is the fire burger, with jalapeno chilies, pepper jack cheese, sriracha mayo, onion straws, lettuce, and tomato. It's not all about the beef though you can also choose from turkey, chicken, salmon, and black bean. All patties are hand-made onsite. The Flint River Trail offers folks the chance to ride on both sides of the river, taking in scenic views of the river and the many birds that make their home around it. The path takes in lots of suburban areas and city parks, offering good connections to a variety of businesses and amenities as well as a peaceful, scenic ride. Find the access point in the downtown area near the Flint campus of the University of Michigan. The path runs for several miles, passing by Stepping Stones Falls and ending at Bluebell Beach 2. Genesee Valley Trail Genesee Valley Trail is a pleasant path running for several miles, from Flint Township Park to the plaza in Carriage Town. The smooth concrete trail features minimal elevation and offers excellent views of woodlands, suburbs, and pleasant, grassy vistas. Please note, this is a multi-use trail and can get a little busy with hikers on warm days, weekends, and holidays. If you wish to extend your ride, you can find links to other pathways, including the Swartz Creek Trail and the Flint River Trail. 3. George Atkin Jr. Recreational Trail One of the most scenic cycling locations in the area, George Atkin Jr. Recreational Trail boasts a treasure trove of gorgeous woodland surroundings. Riders will pass by mixed hardwood forest, pleasant parklands, and ponds. It's a great place to spot wildlife, with plenty of deer and birds in the area. Access is available at a variety of trailheads in the city of Clio. For parking, use Clio City Park. 4. Riverview Trail Another great waterside path, Riverview Trail runs for a mile and a half of premier waterfront land. There's a large bridge over Cole Creek, as well as another bridge over the Flint River, offering the chance to take in even more excellent riverside views. The path is smooth and wide, suitable for all abilities, and perfect for a family ride. With its short length and pleasant scenery, it's a great place to bring the kids! Find the trailhead in Flushing, near the main street bridge. 5. Creasey Bicentennial Park Trail This 2.7-mile trail is a great way to enjoy views of one of the area's best-loved parks. A mixed concrete and boardwalk path, stretching for just under 3 miles, it's another great route for inexperienced cyclists. Plenty of parking is available in the park's lot, along with restroom facilities. The park is also a great spot for a picnic, so why not work up an appetite with a long ride, then treat yourself to a few yummy bites in the sunshine? When you shift from park to drive, and as your Chevy drives sedately your transmission is probably one of the last things on your mind. Your transmission allows your car to move, by transferring the power of your engine to the wheels. Without a transmission, your car simply won't move. Since the transmission is important and, unfortunately, even the best components can break, if you need a transmission repair in Flint, MI your Chevy dealer is the place to go. more Shaking or Grinding Although automatic and manual vehicles both have transmissions, they can react differently. If you don't have a fluid leak, the other possibility is that the transmission fluid is old. Transmission fluid lubricates all the parts of the transmission, but as it flows through the system it also accumulates tiny metallic pieces and sludge. This detritus is absorbed by the fluid, which reduces the fluid's effectiveness and reduces its heat-resistant properties. Old, polluted transmission fluid can heat up and start to burn in the transmission and produce a nasty smell. Gears Won't Shift It's an awful situation if your gears just refuse to shift. One minute the gears shift just fine, and the next they won't move at all and your car is completely stuck, there are several possible reasons for this, including a malfunctioning solenoid, a faulty computer in an automatic transmission, or a faulty clutch in a manual transmission. The root salad is also amazing with the dried cherries, and we love to treat ourselves to their nut and cheese platter, too. They have local craft beers on tap. If you enjoy those, please do so responsibly and never drink and drive. more Valley's Breakfast Restaurant and Bistro If you're up with the sun, you can get breakfast here at 7 am. This place has been serving amazing (and interesting) breakfast and brunch items for more than 34 years, and they have a well-designed takeout service, so you can get anything to go and know it will be hot and delicious when you get it home. For breakfast, they offer amazing omelets and waffles, skillets, griddles, hand-held sandwiches, and huge country classic breakfasts. Their house-made sausage gravy isn't something you want to miss. If you're looking for something lighter, try the avocado toast or the lite french toast nites. We love their cinnamon french toast, and the bistro cakes--pancakes with walnuts and chocolate chips inside--are local favorites. Mel's Diner For that classic diner breakfast, you can't go wrong with Mel's. They have great food, fast and friendly service, and good prices. This is also just a nice place to hang out and spend some time. The owner will get to know you and remember what you like if you go often enough! Be sure to try the sausage gravy and the omelets. Mel's is also well-known in our area for its great hash. Their sausage is also outstanding, and we still haven't been able to get them to let us in on the secret. US Family Restaurant It's in the name: this is a family-friendly, family-owned place that has been serving up good, hearty food since 1976. Everything in here is made fresh every day. It's good, honest, satisfying food. For breakfast, we love their breakfast burrito and the sausage and egg biscuit. The crunchy french toast is a real treat when you're ready to splurge. Your battery provides the power to start your engine, but your battery depends on your alternator's recharging ability to keep it fully charged. The alternator also generates electricity for all your car's electrical components. Alternators have a relatively long life of approximately 8 years, but if it fails it will lead to your battery losing power and dying. A battery's storage capacity is limited, and it will drain completely if it isn't replenished. Battery Light Is On The battery light on your dash will light up if there is a problem with your electrical charging system. Your alternator produces a voltage of 13 to 14.5 volts, but when it starts to wear out the alternator's voltage output will drop. When the voltage drops, a sensor attached to the alternator will detect the change and the battery light will come on. Our technicians will find the cause of the problem and repair it for you.
