Headlights are essential for your driving safety, as they allow you to see and be seen at night or in other low-light conditions. Your headlight bulbs can fail or get damaged, and you'll need new headlights from your Chevy dealer. Headlight bulbs, like a lightbulb in your home, will eventually burn out and need replacement. They can also be affected by electrical problems or a cracked lens. These issues will reduce your headlight illumination, making your car more difficult to see at night. As headlight bulbs wear out, they will either dim or flicker. White Spots on the Lens Each headlight has a clear plastic lens that covers it. The lens has an air-tight seal and protects the bulb and its socket from dirt, debris, and water. A lens can get scratched or cracked as time passes. A small stone thrown up from the street could easily damage the plastic. A cracked lens will allow water to enter the headlight cavity. Headlight bulbs generate heat, especially in the close confines of the headlight cavity. Water that enters the cavity will quickly dry in the heat and leave behind tell-tale white dots inside the lens. If you see these dots, your cover needs replacement. Over time, water can rust the bulb socket or damage the electrical system. We can easily replace a lens to fix this problem. High Beams Don't Work Your headlights can be adjusted between low beam and high beam the high beam is particularly useful in the dark when there are no other vehicles. This beam is angled to shine directly ahead, which gives you a clear view of the road in front of you. These beams shouldn't be used when there are other cars on the streets. The beam's angle can temporarily blind an oncoming driver and cause an accident. A switch on your dash controls high and low beams. This switch activates an electrical relay that adjusts the beam's angle. A damaged relay prevents the angle from changing from a low to a high beam.
