Flint, Michigan has a lot of great indoor activities, but when those beautiful months of the summer arrive, we all want to get outside. Berston Field House
Located at 3300 Saginaw St., this place is great for the kids. It’s open from Tuesdays to Thursdays from 9 AM to 8 PM. On Friday, they are open from 9 AM until noon and then again from 5 to 8 PM. On Saturday, their hours are 9 AM to 3 PM, and on Sunday their hours are 3 PM to 8 PM.
Here you will find families holding reunions, basketball courts, children’s playgrounds, dancing, food truck options, and there’s always a softball game happening on a Sunday afternoon. Just some of the community programs they offer include basketball, handball, yoga and fitness classes, a bicycle club, a creative dance studio, senior line dancing, and more.
Kearsley Park
If you’re looking for a place with lots of room to spread out, pads for walking the dogs or riding bikes, and plenty of room for kids to run and run and run, this is the park for you. The park is at Kearsley Park Boulevard and it’s open from 6 AM until 10 PM daily.
There are outdoor pavilions where you can hold events, play places for the kids, a soccer field, a hill that’s fun for sledding in during the winter, and the city even hosts seasonal concerts and plays in the area. Be sure to check their website to see what might be running during the summers.
The Charles Stewart Mott Estate
If you’re looking for something a little calmer, come visit this beautiful estate from 11 AM to 5 PM Thursday through Saturday or from 1 to 4 PM on Sunday. There is a historic structure to explore either on your own or with a guided tour, lots of weekly and monthly programs for adults and children, and beautiful roses to view in the Rose Garden.
The Mott family owned this home and lived in it for over 80 years, and it’s a legacy to their greatly varied interests and dedication to the community. Some of the programs that they are running now include Storytime at Applewood and Bring Your Lunch and Learn, which is a really cool time. You bring a sack lunch, and while you eat, experts talk about history, teach life skills like gardening or canning, and more.
Outdoor Adventures Lake Shore
About 10 miles from Flint, at 4392 N. Irish Rd. in Davison, Michigan, this fun spot is a resort that caters to locals who want to enjoy all the beauty of Michigan all year round. During the winter, they have skiing, snowboarding, ice fishing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and more. During the summers there are numerous fishing spots to take advantage of and all kinds of water sports. They also have basketball courts, tennis courts, putt-putt golf, a go-kart track, and more.
