If you’re in Flint, MI and looking for some fun things to do on a weekend afternoon, the good news is that we’ve got plenty of options here! Flint is a lively little city with a lot going on, especially in the spring and summer. Here are our recommendations for excellent options for fun that everyone can enjoy right in downtown Flint.

1. Catch an Event or Concert at the Flint Cultural Center

The Flint Cultural Center is a massive cultural and entertainment complex located right by downtown Flint at 1310 East Kearsley Street and hosts an ever-growing selection of concerts, festivals, and other events year-round.

Some of our favorite annual events that we try to always attend are the Summer Auto Festival (held at the end of June) and the Bluegrass Bazaar (held in early June). In addition to the annual events, you’ll find that the Cultural Center hosts an incredibly active year-round events calendar, filled with art exhibitions, light shows, film screenings, hands-on workshops, and more.

2. Shop at the Flint Farmers’ Market

Opened in 2014, the new Flint Farmers’ Market is a landmark of downtown Flint and truly a corner piece of the Flint community. The location can’t be more convenient, right by the main bus terminal at 300 East First Street.

You can find basically anything grown or raised in the Midwest here, and can be certain what you’re getting is fresh from the farm. We recommend checking out the herbs and spices section as well as the baked goods sections for a real taste of Michigan. And that’s not all: check out their website for the calendar of events, where you’ll find the biggest crowds of local Michiganders congregating at the downtown market.

3. Visit the Sloan Museum of Discovery

You can’t call yourself a Flint local without learning a bit of local South Michigan history through the active, hands-on exhibits at the Sloan Museum. Located on the campus of the Cultural Center at 1221 East Kersley Street. The museum hosts an incredibly well-curated selection of exhibits that will entertain and educate the whole family.

Once you enter the museum, you can walk through (literally) old Flint streets lined with vintage model cars produced in Flint during its automotive heyday. Car enthusiasts should also never leave without seeing the exhibits on concept cars and car models of the future!

If you’re into cars, one other thing you’ll probably want to do in downtown Flint is to check out what Flint has always been and continues to be most famous for – its cars! So, before you leave town, drive over to Randy Wise Chevrolet, Flint’s favorite Chevy dealer, and drive off with an all-American car like the Chevy Trailblazer.
