Chevrolet is adding to their electric vehicle lineup for 2022. Along with several updates for the popular Bolt EV, a new Bolt EUV will now be available. Changes to the Bolt EV include a redesigned interior and exterior. The cabin will feature upgraded materials and more comfortable seats and come with a new infotainment system. The new Bolt EUV is longer and offers more upscale features. Which Chevrolet EV model is right for you?
The Bolt EV
Chevy made some important updates to the 2022 Bolt EV, but the impressive powertrain remains the same. It has an electric motor that puts out 200 horsepower and gets 266 pound-feet of torque, and it has a 65-kWh battery offering a 259-mile range. Chevy offers a new charging cord for the Bolt EV that uses both a 120-volt and 240-volt connection, and they are even offering free home installation of the 240-outlet.
The latest Bolt now features a button on the center console that allows the driver to choose one-pedal driving. When activated, it uses regenerative braking to stop the Bolt, which charges the battery.
The Bolt EUV
The new Bolt EUV is over six inches longer than the EV, with three extra inches of wheelbase that adds to the rear-seat legroom. This Bolt gets its power from the same electric motor as the regular EV and can get up to 250 miles of range. All models have a flat-bottomed steering wheel and have a fun geometric pattern in the upholstery.
The Technology
Inside, a 10.2-inch touch screen has the latest version of Chevy’s infotainment system and comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging comes standard in the EUV and is offered as an option in the EV. Both models offer some new in-vehicle apps such as Amazon Alexa, the Weather Channel, and Spotify. Depending on the trim, a Wi-Fi hot spot is also available.
The Cabin Features
The regular Bolt EV has a 16.6-cubic foot cargo area behind the rear seats, which opens up to 57 cubic feet if you fold the back seats down. The EUV has three more inches of rear-seat legroom and a slightly smaller cargo area with 16.3-cub feet of storage space with the rear seats up and 56.9 cubic feet with the seats folded down.
The 2022 Bolt has redesigned seats that are more comfortable than the previous model, and these will carry over to the Bolt EUV.
Safety Features
Several driver-assist features will comes standard in both the EV and the EUV. The Chevy Assist Safety Suite includes a forward-collision warning system with front pedestrian braking and automatic emergency braking. It also has lane-keep assist, a following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beam headlights. The EUV Premier adds adaptive cruise control, a surround-view parking camera, and Super Cruise.
The redesigned Bolt EV and the new EUV offer excellent range, new technology features, and a comfortable and driver-focused cabin.
