2. Bay City State Park
Established in 1922 and providing habitat for several different species of migratory birds, Bay City State Park is a beautiful public recreation area located along the shores of Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron. Covering an area of almost 2,400 acres, this place features large swathes of marshes, wetland woods, oak savannah prairies, and meadows, making it a great place to disconnect from the routine and the urban bustle.
Bay City State Park is located about 55 miles north of downtown Flint and can be reached in less than one hour by car via route I-75. Some of the facilities you can find in this nature reserve include a large network of hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, a playground, and family campgrounds. A visitor center located within the limits of the park features a permanent exhibition on the history of the area.
3. Sleepy Hollow State Park
Covering almost 2,700 acres and sitting around the shores of Lake Ovid, Sleepy Hollow State Park is another wonderful destination to spend a weekend away from the city and enjoy your favorite outdoor activities. This public recreation area is located a little over 40 miles west of downtown Flint and can be reached in about 45 minutes by car.
