2023 Chevrolet Equinox
The Chevrolet Equinox is a practical choice for compact SUV drivers. It comes well-equipped with features even at the base trim level, and it has a sleek exterior design. For the 2023 model year, the Equinox sees some small changes. The 1.5-liter turbo engine gains five additional horsepower, and the SUV adds three new exterior paint colors. This Chevy also has a new electronically assisted braking system that Chevrolet calls e-boost.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Equinox LS comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, and heated side exterior mirrors. Chevy offers the Midnight and Sport Editions for the LS with 18-inch black alloy wheels, body-colored mirror housings, and black exterior badging. A step up to the LT gets you rear privacy glass, some body-colored exterior trim elements, and LED daytime running lights. Choose the RS for black-painted 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, roof rails, and LED taillights. The top-level Premier adds a hands-free liftgate and comes with 18-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
Every 2023 Equinox has a 1.5-liter turbo gas engine under the hood. It gets 175 horsepower, which is an increase from the 170 horsepower available with the previous model year, and it generates 203 pound-feet of torque. You'll also get a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard features, with all-wheel drive offered as an option.
Performance
In addition to the increase in horsepower, the Equinox's upgraded brakes add to the driving experience. The engine has plenty of power to quickly propel the small SUV up to speed from a stop, and you'll feel confident driving it around town and on the highway. Chevy tuned the suspension for comfort, and it delivers a smooth ride over most roads. You can expect to get up to 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway in the Equinox, and when properly equipped, it can tow up to 1,500 pounds.
Interior
There's room for up to five in the Equinox, and both rows have comfortable seats. The entry-level LS comes with cloth upholstery and air conditioning while stepping up to the LT gets you a power-adjustable driver's seat and the option for heated front seats. You'll get leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel in the Premier. Technology in the Equinox starts with a 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An 8-inch touchscreen is optional for some trims and standard in the Premier, which also adds a 120-volt power outlet.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Chevrolet Equinox comes with several advanced safety systems. It has a forward collision warning system with mitigation, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is optional for all trims except the Premier, where it comes standard. The LT and RS offer the option for adaptive cruise control, and this comes standard with the Premier. This top-level trim also adds to its list of safety systems with a high-definition rear camera and a safety alert seat that warns the driver of potential hazards with seat vibrations.
