  Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Will It Take To Repair My Vehicle?
We understand the importance of returning your vehicle to you. It is never easy to be without your vehicle, but we strive to make it as simple and hassle free as possible. The repair time depends on several factors. The extent of damage, availability of parts and insurance approval all effect your repair time. Occasionally delays occur that are unexpected such as hidden damage or parts shipping. We will give you an expected out-date providing we do not run into any parts or supplement issues. Your advisor can give you an estimate of the time it will take to complete the repairs to your vehicle.

Why Can’t I Get An Estimate Over The Phone?
There are many factors that can greatly affect estimated repair costs. Parts prices and repair time are determined by professional estimating software. Repairs often have hidden structural or frame damage that is not visible and may also need wheel alignment. Our expert staff will provide a thorough, accurate estimate after carefully examining your vehicle.

WHERE DO I GET A CLAIM NUMBER?
Your insurance company issues claim numbers at the time you report your accident. Just jot it down and bring it in with you when you come in to begin the repair process, Randy Wise Chevrolet will do the rest.

WHAT IS A DIRECT REPAIR SHOP?
A direct repair facility is a body shop that works directly with your insurance company as a preferred shop. Body shops earn the right to be in preferred shop programs by meeting certain requirements. These include having certified technicians, using the proper equipment, and most importantly, having a record of satisfied customers. When you use a preferred shop, the repair process is streamlined. A preferred shop actually writes the estimate, orders the parts, and repairs your vehicle without having to wait for an insurance adjuster. Insurance companies constantly monitor their preferred shops to ensure quality repairs.

ARE YOU OPEN SATURDAY?
Yes, we are open Saturdays from 8:00am to 2:00pm.

WILL THE PARTS BE ORDERED BEFORE I DROP OFF MY VEHICLE FOR REPAIR?
Absolutely. We generally order your vehicle's parts at the time that we write the estimate and schedule your vehicle for drop-off a couple of days later. This enables us to provide quicker turnaround time.

IF MY VEHICLE'S FRAME IS DAMAGED IS IT A TOTAL LOSS?
No. A car is a total loss only when the price of repairs exceeds the insurance companies determined value of your vehicle. Nowadays, most cars are built using unibody (frame and body as one) construction. Our highly skilled technicians, with the aid of our state-of the-art laser measuring system, can return your vehicle to its original factory specifications. If it is determined that the frame section is bent beyond repair, that section can simply be replaced

CAN YOU MATCH THE PAINT COLOR?
Today's modern factory finishes incorporate multiple layers of highly specialized paints. Randy Wise Chevrolet Collision Center has made a major investment in the finest paint system available and constantly upgrades its technology and equipment to ensure that each vehicle's paint matches. We take special pride in our ability to match factory finishes as the final step in the restoration process.

CAN I GET OTHER SERVICE WORK DONE ON MY VEHICLE WHILE IT IS IN THE BODY SHOP?
Yes. Just let your advisor know what other work you would like done so that he can make the necessary arrangements.

CAN I GET A RIDE HOME WHEN I DROP OFF MY CAR?
Yes, we would be happy to provide this service to you. We want each customer's visit to be a positive experience and will work diligently towards that goal.

HOW CAN I GET A RENTAL CAR?
If you need a rental car, we can help you make the necessary arrangements. Insurance companies will only pay for a rental car if you have that option on your policy. Check your policy and/or call your insurance company to find out if you have rental coverage and what your specific limitations are. With an approved collision repair we do offer FREE loaners!

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY CAR IS DONE?
You will be notified by phone when your vehicle is ready to be picked up. Feel free to call or e-mail your advisor during the repair process if you have questions or concerns.

IS THERE A WARRANTY ON THE REPAIRS TO MY VEHICLE?
Yes. Randy Wise Chevrolet offers a written warranty on all repairs for as long as you own the vehicle.

DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE?
The amount of deductible that you will be responsible for is determined by your insurance policy. If you carry standard collision, you will have to pay your deductible regardless of whether you were at fault. If you carry broad collision, and you were not at fault, your insurance company most likely will waive your deductible. Insurance companies determine fault by your account of the accident when you make the claim, and by reviewing the accident report filed with the police department. If you aren't sure about your deductible, you can call your advisor and he can tell you whether your insurance company has waived your deductible or whether you will be responsible to pay this when you pick up your vehicle.

WHO DO I PAY MY DEDUCTIBLE TO?
If your deductible is not waived, it will be your responsibility to pay Randy Wise Chevrolet when you pick up your vehicle. If you aren't sure about your deductible, you can call your advisor and he can tell you whether your insurance company has waived your deductible or whether it will be your responsibility.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
Visa, MasterCard, Discover & Debit cards.  Of course, we accept personal checks and cash.

WHAT ARE BETTERMENT CHARGES?
Parts that wear out and need replacement with time and use (i.e., tires, batteries, and suspension parts) are commonly subject to betterment charges when they are replaced during the repair process. These betterment charges are determined by your insurance company and are pro-rated.

Car Care Tips

CAN I WASH MY CAR?
RECOMMENDATIONS AND PRECAUTIONS IN THE FIRST 30 DAYS
DO'S · Wash the vehicle by hand with cool water and a very mild car wash solution using a soft cloth or sponge. · Always use clean fresh water. · Wash your vehicle in the shade
. DONT'S · Do not use a commercial car wash. Stiff brushes or sponges could mar the finish and damage the surface. · Do not "dry wipe" your vehicle. Dry wiping can scratch the finish. · Do not drive on gravel roads. Chipping the finish is easily done in the first 30 days. · Avoid parking under trees and utility lines, which are likely to attract birds. Bird droppings have a high acid content and will damage a freshly painted surface. Also, tree sap can mar or spot a freshly painted surface. · Do not spill gasoline, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, or windshield solvent on the new finish. · Do not scrape ice or snow from the newly painted surface. Scrapers can act like a paint scraper on a newly painted finish.
RECOMMENDATIONS AND PRECAUTIONS IN THE FIRST 90 DAYS
DON'T · Do not wax or polish the vehicle. This will allow the finish to dry and harden completely.

Accident Tips

What to do in case of an accident...

  • Move the vehicle out of the traveled roadway, if it is clear, safe and legal. (In some states it is against the law to move the vehicle from the place where the accident occurred. Check the ordinance in your area.)
  • Turn off the ignitions of the cars involved.
  • Check for injuries. Life and health are more important than damage to vehicles.
  • Make note of specific damages to all vehicles involved.
  • Write down the names, addresses and license numbers of persons involved in the accident. Also, write a description of the other vehicles, license plate numbers and state.
  • Exchange insurance company information. DO NOT discuss "fault" or make statements about the accident to anyone but the police.
  • Make a quick diagram of where the vehicle occupants were seated and indicate the vehicles' direction of travel and lane. Also note the date, time and weather conditions.
  • Call the police, even if the accident is minor.
  • Get Police report number.
  • Write down names and addresses of anyone who may have witnessed the accident. This can prevent disagreement concerning how the accident actually happened.
  • Call Our Collision Center to set up an estimate and arrange towing and rental car if needed.

DO'S & DONT'S
DO
  • Write down details about the accident, the location, and circumstances such as weather conditions and visibility.
  • Call the police, even if the accident is minor.
  • Notify your insurance agent about the accident immediately.

  • Administer first aid unless licensed to do so.
  • Admit guilt.
Please remember to be calm, courteous and consistent in your version of the accident and to call your auto insurance company or agent as soon as is practical.
Collision Repair Terminology ...
Aftermarket Parts
Automotive replacement parts that were not made by the original equipment manufacturer. Also known as Quality Replacement Parts, Generic Parts, C.A.P.A. Certified Parts
Basecoat ( BC ) / Clear
A paint system in which the color effect is given by a highly pigmented basecoat. Gloss and durability are given by a subsequent clearcoat
Betterment
Term used to describe an item replaced due to an accident that has some wear. The practice is often applied to tires and batteries that are several years old. If a battery has used up 3/4 of its life, the Insurance company will pro-rate the item’s cost and in this case will pay 1/4 of the cost to replace the battery and will ask the insured or claimant to pay the remaining 3/4. The premise being that the Insurance Company is only obligated to return the vehicle to its pre-accident condition
Clear or Clear coat
The clearcoat imparts gloss and protection to a basecoat clearcoat system. It is essentially a pigment-free paint.
DRP
Acronym for Direct Repair Program. These programs often involve a contractual agreement between an Autobody Repair Center and an Insurance Company. For the most part, the agreements set the rules of repair and standardized procedures such as warranties, billing practices and record keeping.
Hazardous Waste
Any unusable by-product derived from the repair and/or painting process that cannot be disposed of through normal waste disposal streams. These products can be potentially harmful to the environment and require special handling as well as professional disposal. Federal, State and Local laws apply and may differ in their scope.

This information allows the Repair Center to order the correct parts for your vehicle. Any professional estimate or Repair Order will have this number on it.

We use only approved parts as specified by your insurance company.

Below are descriptions of the types of parts used in collision repair
New OEM Parts
These parts come from the Original Equipment Manufacturer ('OEM') for your vehicle: either the manufacturer of your vehicle or the source formerly or currently used by your manufacturer for parts for your vehicle. They have never been on another vehicle.
Salvage Parts
These are OEM parts that have been removed from another vehicle of your make and model (or a substitutable make and model). They are from the same source as the damaged parts that will be replaced, but have been used on another vehicle.
Remanufactured Salvage Parts
These are OEM parts that have been removed from another vehicle of your make and model (or a substitutable make and model), and have then been returned to 'as new' condition. They are from the same source as the damaged parts that will be replaced, but have been used on another vehicle, and then reconditioned or rebuilt.
Aftermarket Parts
Companies other than the OEM have manufactured these parts to replace OEM parts.
